You know what the best part about Christmas is? It’s your family coming together. If only temporarily, having everyone under one roof again is the most uplifting and happy feeling (unless you have one of those families where you act normal for all of 5 minutes and then its mass chaos). Ahem…mine would be the mass chaos version. My brother came home from his out of state college to spend Christmas break at home. And well…needless to say he wasn’t home 5 minutes before we got into some shenanigans.
So let me start by saying, there is nothing quite like a warm, homemade pie with a gooey filling and a flaky crust on a brisk, November day. And today just happens to be the perfect day for prep work. I’ve got lunch on the stove. The stove has made it warm and toasty in the kitchen so we have the window above the sink open. We can hear the rustle of the leaves we have yet to rake as they blow in the wind. And of course we have good ‘ole George on the radio.
The saying is: “when you love your job you never work a day in your life.” Ahem… I love my job but I love dawdling around in my pajamas even more. Especially at 5:45 in the morning. But alas…duty calls! So as boss-lady and I discuss what shall sustain us during this Saturday morning a couple of options came to mind…donuts, waffles, pancakes…cakes…birthday cake? No no… I’m only alloted one birthday cake breakfast a year…or maybe two,…three? Ahem…shake it off, Lauren. Shake it off!
